There are 5 different catergories of cards in this game. To build your fencing deck, you will pick cards from 4 of them: basic moves, actions, dirty tricks, and relics.

Basic Moves
Basic Moves are your bread and butter moves in a fencing bout. These include lunges, parries, and ripostes. This is primarily how points are scored.
30 Basic Moves are recommended.

Actions
Actions are things you can play on your opponent to mess up their attacks. Some of these cards end a turn before your opponent can score while others earn your opponent a card for poor fencing.

Dirty Tricks
Dirty Tricks are the fun part of the game. These are all those little things you would do while fencing, if only it were legal. Well, they're still not legal, but there's nothing to stop you from playing them (except the Action's Caught! card). The bad part about these cards is that, if you are Caught! you will be carded.

Relics
Relics are power cards, and as such they are limited in play. You may only pick 3 Relic cards for your deck and you can't have multiple copies of the same Relic. They are items or abilities that will help you overcome obstacles that your opponent may present.

Directors
Directors are the referees ruling over the fencing bout. They know everything and are always right - even if they are wrong. There is a fencing saying that you have to "fence the director as well as your opponent." This means you have to adapt your fencing strategy to the flaws of your director. Unfortunately, you don't get to pick which directors you will get in your deck. That's our job. =)
